UP tops in crimes against women, kidnapping: NCRB

Over 3.5 lakh cases of crime against women were registered across the country in 2017, according to the latest report released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

An upward trend has been witnessed in the same, as over 3.3 lakh cases were reported in 2017 and over 3.2 lakh cases in 2016.

According to the NCRB data, Uttar Pradesh has topped the list of the maximum number of cases of crime against women with 56,011 cases.

The second-highest number of cases were reported from Maharashtra with 31,979 cases followed by West Bengal, which registered 30,992 cases.

A decline in crimes against women was seen in the case of Delhi for the third straight year. The national capital registered 13,076 cases 2017, down from 15,310 in 2016 and 17,222 in 2015.

Uttar Pradesh did not top list only in this, but it also topped the list of states having the maximum number of kidnapping and abduction cases.

As many as 19,921 cases were reported from the most populated state which is an increase from 15,898 cases in 2016 and 11,999 cases in 2015.

Uttar Pradesh was followed by Maharashtra with 10,324 cases and Bihar with 8,479 cases.
