Retorting to Guv Malik’s “feeble reply”, Rahul Gandhi asks when can he come to J&K

In the one-on-one going between Rahul Gandhi and Satyapal Malik, the former Congress president on Wednesday gave a stinging reply to the latter over his “politicising the incident” comment.

It all began with Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik hitting out at Rahul Gandhi for his comments that there have been reports of violence in the state. Malik asked Rahul Gandhi to visit the Valley and observe the ground situation for himself and that he will send an aircraft for the Congress leader.

This was meant to be sarcastic, but Gandhi nevertheless took him up on the offer.

In response to this, Gandhi tweeted that he would definitely visit the Valley and that he doesn’t need an aircraft but an assurance that he will be given the freedom to travel and meet the people there.

“Dear Governor Malik, A delegation of opposition leaders & I will take you up on your gracious invitation to visit J&K and Ladakh. We won’t need an aircraft but please ensure us the freedom to travel & meet the people, mainstream leaders and our soldiers stationed over there,” Gandhi tweeted.

A statement from Raj Bhawan was released on Tuesday which accused the Congress leader of politicising the incident and that because of so many pre-conditions the offer was off the table.

However, Gandhi was quick enough to take on this as well. In another tweet, Gandhi wrote that he has accepted the invitation as well as withdrawn his conditions. He also asked as to when can he visit the state.

“Dear Maalik ji, I saw your feeble reply to my tweet. I accept your invitation to visit Jammu & Kashmir and meet the people, with no conditions attached. When can I come?” he tweeted.

Several opposition leaders have been trying to visit Jammu and Kashmir since last week when the Parliament passed a resolution to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories. Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja were asked to return back to Delhi from Srinagar airport.
