Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday announced that if the grand old party comes to power, it will waive off interest on education loans issued before March 31, 2019.

“The Congress government will waive off interest on education loans issued before March 31, 2019. Also, we will implement a single window system for education loans. Unless the student gets a job or earnings through self-employment, the bank will not charge any interest,” Gandhi said in a Facebook post in Hindi.

“Congress will restore freedom and autonomy in colleges and universities. We will establish new government schools in the backward areas of the country, by which education can expand in these areas. The Congress will also bring ‘Student Rights Bill’, which will codify the rights and obligations of the students,” he wrote in another Hindi post.
