In her first address after officially entering into politics as the General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday appealed to people to use their weapon of vote and choose their future.

“Your vote is the kind of weapon that doesn’t hurt anyone, it will only make you stronger. You are choosing your future with this weapon,” Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing a public meeting in Gujarat.

She further warned people from getting distracted from main issues.

“Do not get distracted with unwanted issues. You should realise what benefits you, how you will get employment, how women can be safe. I appeal to you to take your decision with caution,” she said.

She said that she was saddened by the current situation in the country, which was earlier known for its love and harmony.

“I have visited Gujarat for the first time and for the first time I visited Sabarmati Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi started the fight for nation’s independence. I cannot explain to you what I felt while listening to the bhajans. I thought of those freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for India’s independence. Their sacrifice has built this nation. I realised that this country is built with love and harmony. I feel sad at the current situation of the country. There is no better nationalism than being aware. Your vote is your weapon,” she said while once again emphasising on the importance of exercising the right to vote.

To mark the anniversary of the Dandi March, led by Mahatma Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, earlier in the day, visited the Gandhi Ashram in Sabarmati along with Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Thereafter, Priyanka Gandhi also attended the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Ahmedabad, led by Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
