Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday assured the people of Andhra Pradesh that if his party comes to power at the Centre, no force will be able to stop them from giving special status to the state.
“I want to begin my speech by telling you that the most important thing in leadership is a person’s words. If what one says does not have meaning, then it is no use saying it. If one does not have commitment to what one says, then it is worthless. People of AP were committed Special Status. This was committed by a PM, who is the voice of a billion people. When a PM speaks, India speaks. And the PM of India has promised Special Status to AP. I want to make it very clear that when Congress comes to power in Delhi, no force can stop us in giving Special Status to AP,” Gandhi said while addressing a public rally in Tirupati’s Taraka Rama Stadium, Andhra Pradesh.
Gandhi then talked about his promise he had made to the farmers of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during state elections campaigning and how the Congress governments in the state did so within two days of coming to power.
“In recent elections, in every speech I promised the farm loan waivers within 10 days of forming the govt, and I’m proud to tell you that we did it in 2 days in MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. If the Congress party has made a commitment, then it will be fulfilled,” he said.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over posing in front of cameras even after the Pulwama terror attack was reported, the Congress chief said that the former did not feel the pain and suffering of the families of the youngsters who sacrificed themselves.
“Today in India, some people call themselves nationalists. When 40 of our jawans were martyred, PM of India is sitting in a national park and getting a movie made of himself. For 3 and a half hours after our soldiers were killed, PM Modi posed in front of the cameras and made a movie of himself. PM Modi did not feel the pain and suffering of the families of youngsters who sacrificed themselves. Making a film was more important to him than helping the families of people who died,” he said.
Gandhi further condemned such PM Modi and said he should be ashamed of his behaviour.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi embarked on a Padyatra to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. This was his maiden visit to Tirumala as the Congress president.

After returning from the hill shrine, Gandhi garlanded the statue of anti-caste activist Jyotirao Phule in the heart of the town.
He then went in a procession up to Taraka Rama Stadium in Sri Venkateshwara University campus, where he addressed the rally.
