Furthering his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the controversial NaMo app, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday termed PM Modi as the “Big Boss who likes to spy on Indians.” He reiterated that the Narendra Modi app records audio, video, contacts of friends and families of all those who have downloaded the app. Making his attack more intense, the Congress President said that now the same thing is being thrust upon 13 lakh National Cadet Corps (NCC) who are now being forced to download the NaMo app. He tweeted, “Modi’s NaMo App secretly records audio, video, contacts of your friends & family and even tracks your location via GPS. He’s the Big Boss who likes to spy on Indians. Now he wants data on our children. 13 lakh NCC cadets are being forced to download the APP.#DeleteNaMoApp.”

On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi took another dig at Prime Minister Modi. He alleged that the data collected by the NaMo app is transferred to PM Modi’s ‘friends’ in American companies. He also took a jibe at the mainstream media which has been too busy burying the stories highlighting the current government’s drawbacks. He wrote, “Hi! My name is Narendra Modi. I am India’s Prime Minister. When you sign up for my official App, I give all your data to my friends in American companies. Ps. Thanks mainstream media, you’re doing a great job of burying this critical story, as always.”

Gandhi also attached a link to a news report wherein a French vigilante hacker claimed that personal data of all those users who had downloaded the NaMo app had been compromised. Hacker Elliot Alderson alleged that personal data such as emails, photos, genders and names of the NaMo app users was being sent to a third party domain, that too also, without the users’ knowledge or consent.

The Congress Party on Friday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NaMo app is being used to extract personal information of Indian users. The Congress produced evidence to prove the links between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Cambridge Analytica. It shared the former BJP IT data head and current head of MyGov website Arvind Gupta’s tweet praising Cambridge Analytica in 2017 and also claimed that Union minister Smriti Irani followed Cambridge Analytica on Twitter.

What goes around comes around. BJP thought that using the fake news of linking Cambridge Analytica with Congress would divert the country’s attention from the death of 39 Indian in Iraq’s Mosul, but on the contrary, this scandal is actually haunting the saffron party only.
