Buy swords instead of utensils on Dhanteras: UP BJP leader’s advice to Hindus to prepare for Ayodhya verdict

Dhanteras

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Uttar Pradesh has urged Hindus to buy swords instead of silver utensils and gold on Dhanteras to prepare for the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya case which is expected to come soon, The Indian Express reported on Sunday.

According to custom, Hindus buy gold or silver ornaments and utensils on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, which is meant to bring good luck and wealth.

“The Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue is expected soon and we are confident that it will be in favour of the Ram Temple. However, this could vitiate the atmosphere, so it is advisable to stock iron swords instead of gold jewellery and silver vessels. These swords will be useful for our own protection when such a time comes,” Scroll quoted Gajraj Rana, BJP’s Deoband city president, telling reporters on Saturday.

However, the BJP did not endorse his views. “The BJP does not endorse this kind of language if it has been used by him. Whatever he has said is in his personal capacity. There is a very clear guideline for the party leaders. Any action or statement must be done or said within the ambit of law and no one is above the law,” Scroll quoted the party’s state spokesperson Chandramohan, as saying.

The judgement on the Ayodhya case was reserved by a five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on October 16. The verdict in the same is expected before November 17.
