BJP has conceded defeat: Congress

Welcoming the Supreme Court’s order of holding a floor test in Karnataka Assembly tomorrow, the Congress on Friday said that the BJP seems to have already conceded defeat and are now speaking under pressure. Speaking highly of the apex court, the Congress said they are proud to have a Supreme Court that hears urgent matters at late night hours too proving that justice never sleeps.

The Congress exhibited confidence and said they are ready for the floor test called by the Supreme Court tomorrow. “BS Yeddyurappa cannot do magic or alter maths. On what basis did he give a letter without signatures and without a number. BS Yeddyurappa should not have claimed majority. They are aware that they cannot turn 104 to majority. They cannot muster numbers in a day,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said while addressing a press conference.

The Congress reiterated that it along with the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) will form the government in Karnataka tomorrow as the BJP will fail to prove majority on the floor of the House.

Following the Supreme Court’s order, Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to assert that the Governor of Karnataka acted unconstitutionally and that the BJP’s bluff has been called out by the court. “Today’s Supreme Court order, vindicates our stand that Governor Vala acted unconstitutionally. The BJP’s bluff that it will form the Govt., even without the numbers, has been called out by the court. Stopped legally, they will now try money & muscle, to steal the mandate,” he tweeted.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also welcomed the apex court’s order, saying the Constitution has won and democracy restored. “Constitution wins, Democracy restored! #BSYeddyurappa does remain a 1 day CM – Constitution rejects an illegitimate CM as also the unconstitutional decision of Governor of Karnataka,” Surjewala tweeted.
