At a time when onion prices are soaring high and are literally bringing tears to many, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made an unusual statement on the same in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
While replying to a question asked by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on the production and price of onions, Sitharaman said, “I don’t eat a lot of onions and garlic, so don’t worry. I come from a family that doesn’t care much about onions and garlic.”
Her response, for obvious reasons, drew laughter from other MPs in the lower house.
