The Opposition on Sunday criticised and ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks he made on clouds and radar in reference to the Balakot airstrike.
In an interview with News Nation on Saturday, PM Modi, while commenting on the airstrike conducted in February, said that despite bad weather, he gave a go ahead to fighter jets as he believed that clods and heavy rain would prevent radars from detecting jets.
“The weather was not good on the day of airstrikes. There was a thought that crept in the minds of the experts that day of strike should be changed. However, I suggested that the clouds could actually help our planes escape the radars,” PM Modi said.
Without wasting much time, the Congress attacked the PM through their self-composed poetry:
Jumla hi fekta raha paanch saal ki sarkar mein,
Socha tha cloudy hai mausam,
Nahi aaunga radar mein. pic.twitter.com/xDeOg4Yq5K— Congress (@INCIndia) May 12, 2019
CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury said Pm Modi’s remarks were “truly shameful…because they insult our Air Force as being ignorant and unprofessional.”
National security is not something to be trifled with. Such an irresponsible statement from Modi is highly damaging. Somebody like this can’t remain India’s PM. https://t.co/wK992b1kuJ

“On PM Modi’s radar & clouds comment, it seems no one clarified for the PM how radars work. If that is the case, then it is a very serious national security issue. No laughing matter!” tweeted Congress spokesperson Salman Soz.

BJP Gujarat official Twitter account had initially posted the comment, but heavy backlash led them to delete the comment.

Twitter was laughing out loud at PM Modi’s remarks and did not miss out on the opportunity to roast the PM.
My big worry for the day. How will we defend India when it is cloudy? ?

A friend on FB put it well. If Modi as PM can really dismiss expert opinion & endanger airforce personnel by enforcing his cloudy understanding about radars, we know why Pakistani PM Imran Khan wants a second term for Modi. pic.twitter.com/wylzPXqK1A
