Shameful: Air strike will help us win more than 22 Lok Sabha seats, says BS Yeddyurappa

Just yesterday, opposition parties hit out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government for “blatant politicisation of the sacrifices of the armed forces”, and on the very same day Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief BS Yeddyurappa kind of proved the same by saying that India’s air strikes have created a favourable wave for PM Modi and will help the saffron party in winning 22 of 28 seats in the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“The atmosphere….day by day, the wind is increasingly blowing in favour of the BJP. Yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) action of destroying terror hideouts by entering inside Pakistan has resulted in a pro-Modi wave in the country, the results of which can be seen in coming Lok Sabha polls. It has enthused youths; all this will help us in winning more than 22 Lok Sabha seats (in Karnataka),” the former chief minister said on Wednesday in Chitradurga.

The BJP has 16 parliamentary seats in Karnataka, the Congress 10 and Janata Dal Secular 2.

Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramiah condemned Yeddyurappa’s statement and termed it disgusting.

“Shocking & disgusting to understand #BJPsPlot4Vote. It is unfortunate that @BJP4India is calculating electoral gains even before the dust has settled. No patriot shall derive such sadistic gains over soldiers’ death, only a anti-nationalist can. What will RSS say about this?” he tweeted.

Earlier on Wednesday, 21 opposition parties met and signed a joint memorandum.

Expressing deep concern over the country’s current security situation in, the 21 parties condemned Pakistan’s act in unison and expressed concern over the security of our Air Force pilot.

“National security must transcend narrow political considerations. The leaders observed that the PM has regrettably not convened an all-party meeting as per the established practice in our democracy,” Congress President Rahul Gandhi said reading out the joint statement to media.
