Congress terms BJP’s budget as #AakhriJumlaBudget; counters claims

The Congress on Friday was in full swing as it countered the claims made by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal while presenting the interim budget for 2019-20 in the Lok Sabha.

Using the hashtag #AakhriJumlaBudget, the Congress busted the claims made by Goyal and presented to its audience the real picture.

Talking about the GDP growth, the Congress wrote that while it was 8.84 per cent in 2009-10 (UPA rule), it dropped down to 6.7 per cent in 2017-18 (BJP regime).

“The BJP govt. believes Modinomics has outperformed all previous govt’s, however, facts are clear. UPA II 2009-10, GDP growth at 8.84%, NDA II 2017-18 at 6.7% . #10YearChallenge. #Budget2019 #AakhriJumlaBudget,” it wrote on Twitter.

Goyal said they (NDA government) will control fiscal deficit to 2.5% in financial year 2020. Countering it, the Congress said it is highly improbable as CAG report said, that by using off-budget financing the Modi government is hiding the true extent of fiscal and revenue deficits.

The grand old party accused the Finance Minister of lying that it was the Modi Government that put Mizoram & Tripura on rail map for the first time. They also provided an article link busting the same.

It further alleged that Goyal lied in parliament about the achievement of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

“.@PiyushGoyal blatantly lied in parliament about the achievements of PMMAY. The fact is the Modi govt. missed their targets and is now significantly inflating the numbers in order to save themselves the embarrassment of another failure,”  it said.

The Congress also countered Goyal’s claim on DEfence Budget, when he said it is set for Rs. 3 lakh crore.

“Dear @PiyushGoyal, you should check with your colleague @nsitharaman, Defence Budget is measured as a percentage of GDP. And under the Modi Govt, it has been the lowest in over 50 years,”  Congress said.

Raising the issue of electrification of villages, the Congress argued that 97 per cent of the work was done in the UPA era and that Modi government only did 3 per cent of the total left.

“Interim FM @PiyushGoyal claimed farmers are receiving fair MSP & the govt. is on track to double their income – if this was true why were there 5 nationwide farmer protests in 2018?” Congress mocked.

The hashtag #AakhriJumlaBudget is already trending on Twitter and the netizens are not missing out on this opportunity to pose their questions to the Modi government.
