Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde calls Congress leader ‘guy who ran behind a Muslim lady’

Ananth Kumar Hegde

Twitter, on Monday, saw a verbal war between Union skill development minister Ananth Kumar Hegde and Karnataka state Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao.

While addressing a meeting of Hindu Jagaran Vedike – a youth organisation of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad — on Sunday, Hegde had said ,“If a hand has touched a Hindu girl, then that hand disappear.”

Condemning his statement, Gundu Rao questioned him about his achievements as a minister.

“@AnantkumarH, Wht are ur achievements after becoming a Union Minister or as MP? Wht are ur contributions for Karnataka’s development? All I can say for sure,it’s deplorable tht such people have become ministers & have managed to get elected as MP’s,” Gundu Rao had tweeted.

Responding to the same, Hegde blatantly dragged Gundu Rao’s wife in the Twitter war. He said that the Congress leader’s only achievement is running behind a Muslim girl, an indirect reference to Gundu Rao’s wife Tabu Rao, who is a Muslim.

“I shall definitely answer this guy @dineshgrao’s queries, before which could he please reveal himself as to who he is along with his achievements? I only know him as a guy who ran behind a Muslim lady,” Hegde had tweeted.

Hegde’s tweet, didn’t go down well with Dinesh Gundu Rao, for obvious reasons, who then attacked him for stooping to such low level and said that he hadn’t learnt from “Hindu scriptures.”

“Sad to see @AnantkumarH stoop to such low levels as to bring in personal issues. Guess it’s his lack of culture. Guess he hasn’t learnt from our Hindu scriptures. Time hasn’t run out, he can still try and become a more dignified human,” Gundu Rao tweeted.

It’s not the first time that Hegde has made such a controversial remark. In fact, the minister is known more by his controversial statements than by his work.

Speaking at an event in December 2017, Hegde kicked up a row when he said, “A few people say the constitution mentions the word secular, so you have to agree. Because it’s there in the constitution, we will respect it, but this will change in the near future. The constitution has changed many times before. We are here to change the constitution. We will change it”.

In a separate incident, Hegde was quoted to have said “as long as there is Islam in this world, there will be terrorism” during a press conference.

In January last year, when Hegde was on his way to a job fair in Ballari, Karnataka, a group of Dalit protesters had blocked his way and raised slogans against his remarks about secularism an changing the Constitution.

While at the fair, Hegde had said, “We are stubborn people. When dogs bark on the road, we don’t care.”

It is shocking that a person who holds so much hate for other religions has been chosen as the Union Minister under the BJP Government.
