Sonia Gandhi urges people of Telangana to give fitting reply to TRS govt

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited Telangana on Friday and urged the people to give a fitting reply to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for failing to fulfil the promises made, by voting for the Congress party.

While addressing a rally at Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Sonia Gandhi said it is an emptional moment for her as it felt like a mother who is visiting her children after several years.

However, she expresses her anguish seeing the people of the state suffering under the TRS government.

“How many dreams, which you had seen at the birth of Telangana have been completed in the last four years? New state was formed with the belief that they’ll get employment and development, ” she said.

“The farmers of Telangana are still craving for water in the fields. Not only this, they even committed suicide. Far from doing anything for the farmers, the TRS government here deliberately ignored the UPA government’s land acquisition law. The youth of Telangana today are frustrated, wandering in search of employment,” she added.

Reminding people of the hurdles that the Congress had to go through during the formation of the state, the former Congress President said that the well-being of both the states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, was in their thoughts.

” We were aware of the pain Andhra had to go through during the formation of Telangana, so we introduced policies specific for Andhra, including special category status,” she added.

Sonia Gandhi then assured the brothers and sisters of Andhra Pradesh that Congress party still abides by the promises it had made to the state.

“You have all witnessed that one who is not true to his words is not trustworthy,”  she said.

“These elections are an opportunity to show your power of vote. I appeal all of you to vote for Congress and be a part of progress in Telangana,” she concluded.
