Before Alok Verma was sent on leave, seven key cases were pending before him

There were many key cases which were on Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Alok Verma’s table before he was abruptly sent on a leave on Wednesday.

in his petition, challenging the government’s decision of ousting him, Verma hinted towards the same and said, “there are bound to be occasions when certain investigations into high functionaries do not take the direction that may be desirable to the Government.”

He also stated that some of the decisions which were critical to some investigations were being hindered by Rakesh Asthana.

The Indian Express mentioned seven such key files which were on Verma’s table before he was sent on leave.

• The very first was the probe into Sandesara and the Sterling Biotech case, in which the alleged role of Asthana was being investigated.
• Another was related to a complaint against the controversial Rafale deal. It was based on the complaint filed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan and former Union Ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie.
• Another one was regarding probe into the Medical Council of India (MCI) bribery case. The chargesheet against implicated retired High Court judge I M Quddusi has been prepared and was ready for Verma’s signature.

• Next was regarding a preliminary enquiry into the case of Justice S N Shukla of Allahabad High Court regarding allegations of corruption in medical admissions.
• Another was related to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy’s complaint against against Finance and Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia.
• Another case was about investigation into the role of a Delhi-based middleman in bribing politicians and officials for “senior Public Sector Unit appointments”.
• The last one was related to the investigation into the alleged role of IAS officer Bhaskar Khulbe, Secretary to the Prime Minister, in a case of allocation of coal mines.
