After Mughalsarai station, airports in Agra, Kanpur, Bareilly may be renamed

Mughalsarai Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh was formally renamed as Deen Dayal Upadhyay station on Sunday.

BJP President Amit Shah, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present at the event.

Following this, another development has been reported stating that airports in Kanpur, Agra and Bareilly may also be renamed.

Adityanath has already written his request to the Centre, seeking permission to rename the airports.

The building of the Mughalsarai station, now Deen Dayal Upadhyay station, was also being painted saffron and signboards with the new names were being put up.

At the event, the three leaders also flagged off a passenger train and a goods train with an all-woman crew, and launched a “smart yard” project at the century-old station on the busy Delhi-Howrah route.

A request by Adityanath to rename the station was accepted by the Centre on the birth anniversary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, an icon for the BJP and RSS, in June.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik gave his assent to the proposal in June. The approval was given despite protests raised in parliament by several parties.

Upadhyay was found dead in mysterious circumstances near the Mughalsarai station in February 1968.

Recently, a statue of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, installed in a primary school compound in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur was painted saffron.

In April, a saffron-coloured statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was installed in a Badaun village, instead of the usual blue.

In the past also, even bigger attempts at doing the same have been attempted.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan in Lucknow, which houses the office of the Chief Minister, was painted saffron. Post this, even the Haj Committtee office was painted in the same colour.

Earlier, History books in Maharashtra and Rajasthan had been changed to show saffron flags throughout the country. A textbook in Rajasthan University even included a book in its syllabus that claimed that Emperor Akbar was defeated by Maharana Pratap in the Battle of Haldighati.

Right from rewriting textbooks to renaming public places, the BJP has been consistently trying to distort history by showing themselves in good light and disregarding contributions made by others.
