Union Minister Satyapal Singh recently claimed that Charles Darwin theory of evolution of man was “scientifically wrong” and that it needed to be “changed in schools and colleges” of India.
The IPS officer-turned politician’s remarks came during the ‘All India Vaidik Sammelan’ in Maharashtra.
“Since the man is seen on Earth he has always been a man,” Singh said.
“Nobody, including our ancestors, in written or oral, has said they saw an ape turning into a man,” he added.
While people could have easily dismissed Singh’s claim as the unfortunate ignorance of the minister except that he has received support from BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav.
Soon after his statement, Madhav tweeted a link to an article called ‘The Scientific Dissent from Darwinism’.

Darwinism is a theory of biological evolution that states that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual’s ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.
It was developed by Darwin, a 19th century English naturalist, and others.
